Mr Brainwash

Explosive, playful, and subversive, Mr. Brainwash has become one of the most provocative and talked-about figures in contemporary art. Bursting onto the scene with the Banksy-directed documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop, the French-born artist—real name Thierry Guetta—blurs the lines between pop art and street art with a visual language that’s equal parts homage and rebellion.

With his energetic mashups of cultural icons, graffiti motifs, and art history references, Mr. Brainwash redefines what it means to be both an artist and a brand. His bold mixed media works layer spray paint, stencils, and collage, often featuring figures like Einstein, Marilyn Monroe, and Charlie Chaplin in unexpected, vibrant settings. His sculptures bring his signature irreverence into three dimensions, turning spray cans, cameras, and paint buckets into larger-than-life installations. For collectors seeking editioned works, Mr. Brainwash’s serigraphs deliver the same punch of color and commentary in hand-finished limited prints.

Whether on gallery walls or building facades, Mr. Brainwash’s art invites us to reimagine the world through a lens of optimism, chaos, and creativity.

About the Artist
Mr. Brainwash (born Thierry Guetta, 1966) is a French-born, Los Angeles-based contemporary artist known for his vibrant fusion of street art and pop culture. Originally a filmmaker, Guetta transitioned to fine art with the help of Banksy, who featured him in the acclaimed 2010 documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop. The film launched Mr. Brainwash into the international spotlight and solidified his place in the contemporary art world.

Drawing inspiration from Warhol, Basquiat, and street legends alike, Mr. Brainwash’s work features recurring images of cultural icons, playful slogans, and bold reinterpretations of classic masterpieces. His debut solo show in Los Angeles attracted over 50,000 visitors and marked the beginning of a career defined by spectacle and spontaneity.

Over the years, Mr. Brainwash has collaborated with celebrities, brands, and even institutions—designing album covers for Madonna and working with the United Nations on global campaigns. Despite his commercial success, his work remains rooted in the rebellious spirit of street art and the belief that “art is not serious.”

Mr. Brainwash continues to exhibit globally and is widely collected for his signature blend of irony, energy, and positivity.
