Keith Haring

1958-1990

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Keith Haring developed an early fascination with art that guided his short but remarkable life. Haring loved comic artists like Charles Schultz and learned to draw from his dad, a cartoon hobbyist. In 1978, 20-year-old Haring moved to New York City. The metropolis’ subway walls served as the initial canvases for Keith Haring’s paintings. Indeed, commuters were the first to appreciate the dynamic lines and signature dancing men in drawings by Keith Haring.

Soon, Andy Warhol noticed Keith Haring’s drawings and propelled Haring’s career to new heights. Simultaneously, Haring opened a retail shop that sold posters and T-shirts of his work. The art world took exception but the public enjoyed the affordable art for sale by Keith Haring that visually defined 1980’s New York. Sadly, Haring passed away in 1990 at just 31.
